COMDECA
Theme: “Better Scouting, Better Community”.
The
2nd Asia Pacific Community Development (COMDECA) was hold at
TA-MA-TU under Barguna District, southern part of Bangladesh from 18 to 22 December
1995. Ta-Ma-Tu stands for three villages named Taltoli, Malitola and Tulatoli.
60
members Organizing Committee worked for organizing COMDECA headed by Mr. M.
Fazlur Rahman, the then National Commissioner (Community Development &
Health), now Chief National Commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts.
The
Organizing Committee formed 10 sub-committees for subject-oriented work headed
by National Commissioners and concern High Governmental Officials.
Comdeca
Secretariat was sate up headed by Executive Secretary of Bangladesh Scouts at
National Headquarters premises to communicate home and abroad regularly. It
worked 16 to 18 hours a day.
Comdeca
inaugurated by the then honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh Begum Khaleda
Zia on 18 December 1995 at 3.00pm.
A-P Regional Scout Committee
Chairman Mr. Felix Li Tai ho, A-P Regional Director Mr. Kim Ku Young was
present among the Guest.
The
Main attraction of Comdeca was its Challenging Programme. Comdeca programme was
divided into 11 Challenges, such as
1. Aerobics
2. Camp
craft
3. Hiking
& Nature Observation
4. Road
& Tornado Shelter repair
5. Solar
Technology
6.
Forestation
7. Health
Education
8.
Exhibition Village
9.
International Brotherhood
10. Youth
Forum
11. Camp
Fire & International Night.
There
were Two Radio Station was sat up at COMDECA area. One of it an FM Radio set by
Radio Bangladesh (Now a day Bangladesh Betar) and other was Sir Jagodish
Chandra Bose Radio Station set by Bangladesh Amateur Radio League.
There
were some distinguished Guest were present some COMDECA event, they were
1. Air Vice
Martial Jamal Uddin Ahmed, the then Chef of Air Staff.
2. Mr.
Mahfuz Aman, Editor, the Daily Star.
A-P
Regional Programme Sub Committee hold its regular meeting at a Small ship
headed by it chairman Mr. Abdullah Rashed (Maldivs), Members of the committee
from Korea, Thailand and Bangladesh were attended.
A total of 2,687 Scout, Rover, Scouter and Officials attended the COMDECA in which 54 from Australia (10), Pakistan (4), Indonesia (5), Maldivs (3), India (1), Nepal (19), USA (2), Japan (4), Thailand (1), Korea (1) & AP Region (4).
